The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency published a final rule in May confirming that HVAC units manufactured or imported before January 1, 2025, that use R-410A refrigerant can continue to be installed until existing supplies run out. No new complete R-410A systems are being manufactured as of this year. The rule removes any legal uncertainty around installing pre-2025 inventory still sitting in warehouses and on contractor trucks.

This gives contractors breathing room during the A2L refrigerant transition. You can legally work through your existing R-410A stock without regulatory risk. However, the supply is finite and will eventually disappear from the market. Contractors who stockpiled large quantities of R-410A units may have an advantage in the short term. Everyone will need to move to A2L equipment as inventory depletes.

Check your current R-410A inventory levels. Project how long your supply will last based on typical installation volume. Use this transition period to train your team on A2L safety protocols and equipment handling.

**Key Takeaways:**

- R-410A units made before January 1, 2025, can be installed legally until depleted
- No new R-410A complete systems are being manufactured as of 2025
- Supply is finite and will eventually run out across the market
